Job Responsibilities:

This position is to use acquired knowledge of Microsoft SQL, systems analysis, systems design, data analysis, database design, and data processing fundamentals/techniques to successfully develop, design, and implement database systems as well as maintain SQL instance performance and assist with Database employee development.


Complete all training and assignments in a timely and effective manner.

Apply departmental standards and procedures to all assignments.

Effective communication with appropriate personnel.

Report status on assigned projects.

Manage multiple projects and requests simultaneously.

Function effectively as a team member and leader.

Provide after-hours problem resolution as required.

Support specification development through participation in JAD (Joint Application Development).

Develop clear and accurate written plans and specifications.

Maintain a harmonious relationship with others under times of conflicting opinions and bring conflict to resolution.

Create, maintain, and report on all assigned Databases.

Create and maintain logical view of all assigned Databases.

Prepare and deliver presentations to Senior management.

Identify the most efficient ways to access the data in all assigned databases.

Provide training and mentoring for less experienced personnel.

Accomplish all above Job Responsibilities and Database Administrator trainee responsibilities with minimal assistance.

Utilize appropriate tools for database/SQL creation and problem resolution.

Apply appropriate project management techniques according to Information Systems standards.

Organize, plan, and lead a team effort to install projects on time.

Detailed analysis of assigned projects.

Make decisions in a clear and concise manner.

Design, build, extract, document, debug, migrate and maintain complex database data and structures.

Create and maintain a Logical Data Model and project task lists.

Assist in building the Physical Data Model for SQL from the Logical Data Model.

Research, evaluate, and develop solutions to complex database related malfunctions.

Review backup, recovery, and security procedures for all production databases.

Ensure optimum performance of the production SQL system and all SQL based applications.

Achieve mastery of appropriate tools for Database maintenance, performance monitoring, and problem resolution.

Comply with the Certified Fleet Operation requirements of the Company Driving and Safety Policy.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:


At least one of the following:

Bachelor’s degree in a computer or technical related field from an accredited school with a minimum 3 years of database experience or application analysis and design.

Associate’s degree in a computer or technical related field from an accredited school with a minimum of 15 hours in programming courses and a minimum 4 years database experience or application analysis and design experience.

Good problem solving abilities.

Ability and willingness to learn and extend skills.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Good organizational skills.

Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office software required for this job.

Completion of one approved supervisory/management/leadership class or seminar.

Demonstrated ability to provide support to multiple projects while effectively leading his/her primary project.

Technical Skills:

SQL and T-SQL scripting.

Able to review and troubleshoot SQL server job failures.

Perform security reviews and protect data from inappropriate access or data loss.

Mastery of SQL.

Proficiency in Shell scripting.

Proficiency in replication.

Proficiency in ODBC connectivity.

Proficiency in SQL Tuning.

Application Database Administrator:         

Proficiency in Relational Data Modeling.

Technical Database Administrator:         

Proficiency in SQL instance Tuning/Installation.         

Proficiency in administration of distributed connectivity software.

Valid Texas driver’s license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation, or disqualify the employee from the Certified Fleet Operator Status, under the Company Driving and Safety Policy.

Use of PC, telephone, copy machine, fax, and other office equipment over six (6) hours per day.

Extended periods of sitting and concentration.

Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing, lifting, and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs.


Occasional long, irregular hours.

Work to be conducted in office environment owned or leased by company.

Travel, as required.
