Job Responsibilities:

The Director of Technology directs and coordinates the activities of the operational divisions of the Information Systems Department by utilizing the employees and assets to provide data processing, networking, security, and user support services to the Companies. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY: 

The development, implementation, follow up, and control of the strategies and plans that will accomplish the assignments made to the operational divisions of the Information Systems Department. 

Development of an operating budget for the operational divisions of the Information Systems Department and recommendation of this budget to the Vice President of Information Systems. 

Administration of the operational divisions of the Information Systems Department to achieve the assigned duties within budget and according to company policy. 

Recommend new company policies or amendments to existing company policies to the Vice President of Information Systems. 

Participate in the development, implementation, and control of company goals and objectives. 

Direct, manage and administer the implementation and maintenance of the data processing, networking, and security systems to accomplish the goals and objectives of the companies. 

Direct, manage, administer, and recommend acquisitions of equipment and services necessary to implement and maintain the data processing, networking, and security systems. 

Hire, promote, and terminate staff of the operational divisions of the Information Systems Department after approval by the Vice President of Information Systems in accordance with policies of Companies. 

Recommend the approval, disapproval, or amendment of systems and procedures for the Information Systems Department. 

Negotiate, with the advice and consent of the legal department of the Companies and administer contracts with vendors to provide data processing and information systems services and equipment to the Companies. 

Develop minimum qualifications for all responsible personnel. 

Comply with Certified Fleet operator requirements of the Company Driving Safety Policy. 

Assess personnel through periodic evaluations. 

Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Qualifications:

Degree from a four-year college or university preferably in Information Technology. 

Previous experience in property and casualty insurance. 

Previous experience in Information systems management above first level supervisor.  This experience needs to be relevant to both a PC and mainframe environment. 

Travel as required. 

Valid Texas Driver’s license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation or disqualify the employee from Certified Fleet Operator status, and the Company Driving and Safety Policy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

Use of PC, telephone, copy machine, fax, and other office equipment over six (6) hours per day.

 

Extended periods of sitting and concentration.

 

Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing, lifting, and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Occasional long, irregular hours.

Provide after-hours problem resolution when required.

Occasional travel by auto or other public transportation.

 

Work to be conducted in office environment owned or leased by company.
