Job Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for assisting in the production of a monthly publication to keep farmers and ranchers updated on legislative, regulatory, and organizational matters and a quarterly publication to keep the general membership updated on organizational activities and services and to give that audience a better understanding of agriculture. This position also assists with digital communication efforts by identifying target audiences and crafting messages to enhance TFB’s digital presence.


Prepare and produce reporting, photography and layout material for all print and digital publications, as well as e-newsletters. 

Schedule interviews and make travel plans to gather content for stories before publication deadlines.

Assist in the development and maintenance of photography and art files.

Contribute content and graphic ideas for Texas Table Top blog. 

Maintain files regarding all current and planned work in the event of any unplanned absence, so another Communications staff member may complete the upcoming publication as needed in a timely manner. Does not happen often, but in the case of an emergency (ex. death or illness). 

Assist in the development of story ideas for publications, publicity kits and news releases. 

Assist in maintaining and updating current copy for the website. 

Assist in the development of public relations materials for presentation at various organizational functions. 

Assist Editor with social media content and management. 

Oversee the content generation, production, and distribution of Friday Report each week and assist in maintaining an accurate email database. 

Serve as event photographer at organizational meetings and conferences. 

Properly care for and maintain company equipment including car, cell phone, computer, etc. 

Comply with the Certified Fleet operator requirements of the Driving and Safety Policy. 

Other duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications:

Four-year degree from accredited college or university in journalism or a related field.

Related experience in publications.

Basic agricultural knowledge.

Writing, editing, layout, and photography skills.

Knowledge of basic computer applications especially in Microsoft Office.

Proficiency in photography, photo editing, design, and Adobe Creative Suite are necessary.

Good interview verbal skills, both face-to-face and on the phone.

Ability to plan, organize, and complete detailed work independently or in a team environment.

Willing to travel as required. Must be able to travel on short notice and on an irregular schedule. Overnight and long-distance trips occasionally necessary.

Valid Texas driver’s license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation, or disqualify the employee from Certified Fleet Operator status under the Company Driving and Safety Policy.

Must have/be able to obtain valid U.S. passport for occasional international travel.

Use of PC, telephone and other office equipment over six (6) hours per day.

Extended periods of sitting and concentration.

Extended periods outdoors at all times of year.

Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing, lifting, reaching and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs.


Occasional long, irregular hours.

Travel, as required.

Routine outdoors environment with exposure to livestock and crops.

Writing, editing, layout and design work to be conducted in office environment owned or leased by company.
