Field Claims Specialist

Job Responsibilities:

?This position is responsible for investigating and resolving claims in a fair, prompt, and efficient manner, according to company and Claims department policies and procedures.


Travel to assigned areas/offices to investigate, evaluate, and settle assigned claims, applying technical knowledge and human relations skills to effect fair and prompt disposal of cases and to contribute to a reduced loss ratio.

Recognize and report the need for experts to the District Claims Manager.

Confirm status of policy and coverage with agency force.

Answer calls and complaints promptly.

Submit reports on each assigned claim to the District Claims Manager in a timely manner.

Immediately advise the District Claims Manager of new lawsuits and assist the Litigation Department in preparation of each case for defense.

Report losses to Regional Claims office with recommended reserves.

Recognize and thoroughly investigate Subrogation claims, and make referrals to the Subrogation unit.

Investigate and report accidental death claims, property protection claims, and payment to fire departments within established procedures.

Pay and process claims within designated authority level.

Adjust reserves or provide reserve recommendations to ensure that reserve activities are consistent with company policies.

Investigate and submit coverage questions and Agents’ error and omission claims to the District Claims Manager.

Enter claim payments, reserves, and new claims into computer system, using concise yet sufficient file documentation.

Resolve complex, severe exposure claims using high service-oriented file handling.

Complete and forward Claims department report to Underwriting.

Verify and analyze data used in settling claims to ensure that claims are valid and that settlements are made according to Company practices and procedures.

Submit monthly expense reports, monthly telephone bills, and other reports, as requested.

Contact or interview claimants, doctors, medical specialists, or employees to get additional information regarding claims.

Participate in training programs identified and as needed.

Properly care for and maintain company equipment, including company car, calculator, camera, automated estimating systems, computer, recorder, printer, etc.

Achieve company standards, follow Claims department procedures, and adhere to Claims department standards.

Comply with the Certified Fleet Operator requirements of the Company Driving and Safety Policy.

Other duties may be assigned.

Job Qualifications:
Four-year degree from an accredited college or university. 

All Lines Adjuster license from the Texas Department of Insurance, maintained according to the licensing requirements set forth by the state of Texas.

Extensive experience with multiple lines of claims. 

Acceptable credit rating.

Basic knowledge of computer applications including the following:
1) The company’s e-mail system
2) The company’s imaging and document handling system
3) The company Intranet
4) The electronic claims system

Effective interpersonal verbal skills, both face-to-face and over the phone.

Ability to plan, organize, and complete detailed work independently or in a team environment.

Subject to relocation.

Valid Texas driver’s license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation, or disqualify the employee from Certified Fleet Operator Status under the company Driving and Safety Policy.

Travel, including overnight travel, as required. 

Repeated use of PC, telephone, and office machines. Extended periods of sitting and concentrating.

Regular bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing, and reaching in an office or field environment.

Physical activities, including lifting, carrying, and using a 40-pound ladder, as well as climbing on roofs.

Ability to climb a ladder and access roofs for visual examination and measurement.
