Job Responsibilities:

To coordinate and direct the activities of the State Legislative program in Austin; in accordance with polices established by the voting delegates as directed.


Represent the Texas Farm Bureau on policy matters with the executive, and legislative branches of government, and other organizations.  Coordinate regulatory activities with appropriate Commodity and Regulatory Department personnel.

Plan and direct Texas Farm Bureau State legislative activities with approval.

Secure State legislative consideration of measures favorable to Texas Farm Bureau policy and seek to amend or defeat measures contrary to those policies. 

Coordinate with Commodity and Regulatory Affairs personnel, to secure favorable action on Farm Bureau policies on regulatory issues at state level.

To develop and coordinate programs to improve Farm Bureaus effectiveness with state legislators. 

Assign, supervise and coordinate work activities for the employees in the State Legislative Office.

Assist in administering the budget of the State Legislative Office.   

Serve as a resource person to the State Resolutions Committee.

Participate in county, state or national meetings, relating to legislative programs as directed.

Present or assign presentation of testimony before state legislative committees and regulatory agencies.

Serve as liaison with other groups to gain support and understanding for Texas Farm Bureau positions.

Develop and maintain working relationship with key individuals in all levels of state government.   

Assist in developing strategy necessary to accomplish legislative and organizational policy objectives. 

Supervise and assist all staff members in the State Legislative Office to achieve their full potential as Texas Farm Bureau employees.

Coordinate and assist in implementation of AgFund political activities and education programs as directed.

Collect adequate information during legislative sessions to formulate a broad based voting record on Texas Farm Bureau issues.

Encourage and coordinate Farm Bureau leader involvement in the legislative process.

Recruit and interview prospective employees as directed.

Comply with the Certified Fleet Operator requirements of the Company Driving and Safety Policy.
Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:



Four-year degree from accredited college or university.


Experience in government affairs.


Valid Texas driver’s license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation, or disqualify the employee from Certified Fleet Operator status under the Company Driving and Safety Policy.


Strong oral and written communication skills.


Strong presentation skills.

Occasional lifting and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs.
